Football – A Universal Language

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

soccer-clubSince the attractive game was first conceived in Britain there have continued to be issues that divide fans while other sides of the game can bring fans together as one. Advocates of any soccer club will always feel united by a devotion to other fans of “their” club, even those from totally different kinds of life that they have not met. At soccer matches around the globe folks will talk soccer with total strangers, frequently only because they wear the same shirt or a t-shirt confirming their shared beliefs. This contrasts to the rather misguided loathing of fans of their selected soccer club’s local rivals.

Regardless of the fact that they’d indeed be extremely nice folks, they support the club from the opposite side of the town and wear a different color soccer shirt.

Such contentions are typically quickly thrown aside when it comes to the world soccer scene when clear enemies join together in their support of the Britain countrywide team, and suddenly it is English fans together, taking on the remainder of the globe. It’s a peculiar power that soccer has to quickly join or divide people and groups, leading to seemingly misguided behavior, which can at times be positive and pretty, but at other times can be destructive and grotesque. Here are some anecdotal stories to back this up, a pair of these have no evidence in reality but have long since become enshrined in soccer folklore. – On Xmas Eve 1914, in the First World War, it is frequently said that English & German infantrymen put down their guns to play a game of soccer in the “No-Man’s” land between their ditchs. – It is assumed that in some war-torn states in Africa that fighting stops whenever the nation’s team’s matches are covered on TV – The keenness of South Yankee fans led to Honduras and El Salvador going to war following a match between the 2 nations in 1969. – In Apr two thousand, two Leeds United fans were fatally stabbed in Istanbul ; the sole reason for this was that they were supporting their team play against Galatasary of Turkey. Football will always continue to split opinion and supply much-loved debate for many fans. Even fans of the same club will have many different perspectives to chat about and maybe disagree about.

These are some of the commoner discusses that appear to be plentiful among fans of most pro soccer clubs. – Which footballer is best? – Which club can make a claim to have the best history? – Which club did the match referee give more calls to? – who’s got the best Soccer Club Owners in the Premier League? – Who are your favorite players? – Who would be the alltime best XI players to play for your team? – Which team’s soccer shirt has the best colors and design? – What colors should your football team’s home and away shirts be? On balance it might need to be said the positives of the Soccer Competitions do far outweigh the negatives and the majority of the disagreements inspire only healthy debate.

Soccer brings together folks from all kinds of life, from all nationalities and from all corners of the Earth. One only has to take a look at the players and fans of the English Premier League to see that Soccer is a universal language.

Long live the Power of Football!
